Just saw the JAS MD-90 in the colours of the new Japan Airlines System. Pretty nice, I think.

But what will happen to the MD-90 fleet? Has there been any announcement to what will happen to the fleet?

Japan Air Lines' MD-90 fleet seems to remain flying for several years, since it's being repainted with the new paint scheme... Also, Japanese are very conservative...

Indeed japanese are very conservative and also the fleet-policy of the japanese airlines but the MD-90 is sadly on it?s way out as well as the MD-81/-87. This would be surely NOT the case if JAS would operate today as a independent one.
The new B737?s will replace not only the MD-81/-87 but also the MD-90 and older B737?s at JAL.

In a move to simplify and to reduce their fleet-size, JAL announced that the entire MD-90-fleet is up for sale. As a interim measure some MD-90s will replace MD-81s which will be retired at the end of September 2010.
